When you take a closer look, the characters in the television show seem to be based off the Seven Deadly Sins: Greed, Lust, Sloth, Gluttony, Pride, Envy, and Wrath. I don't completely agree with the assumptions that Duncan Stewart made, but it was certainly interesting and it made me think. Is it true? Banyak konspirasi yang akhirnya seliweran tentang makna tersembunyi dari setiap adegan yang ada di sebuah film atau kartun. The Flying Dutchman is a terrifying character who comes in a boat from a dark place. Charon if a scary man who sails a boat across to Hell. One thing I did notice while watching Spongebob is that the Flying Dutchman could represent Charon from the Inferno. He tried to help Spongebob pass his driving test once. I have seen Patrick help people throughout the show. Carty told us the sloth isn't necessarily lazy it's not doing anything for the good of others, or not bothering to help people. For example, I don't notice Gary over-indulging food throughout the show. I don't entirely agree with all of the writer's assumptions. Squidward: Wrath- He is always angry towards everyone. Krabs' success with the Krusty Krab, and continuously tries to plot ways to steal his secret formula. Plankton: Envy- Plankton has always been envious of Mr. Krabs: Greed- He is always obsessing over money and being too cheap with things. Patrick: Sloth- Patrick is clearly overly lazy. He even ran away once because Spongebob didn't feed him. Gary: Gluttony- Gary is always being fed and over indulges in food. Sandy: Pride- Sandy takes too much pride in being from Texas. Spongebob: Lust- Spongebob shows an excessive amount of love towards things over God such as his job, his friends, jelly fishing, etc. In the article it shows us how the characters each represent a sin: I read an article online by Duncan Stewart that related each of the Spongebob characters to the seven deadly sins: These sins are pride, gluttony, envy, lust, sloth, wrath, and greed. In Dante's version of Hell we see people who have committed these sins. In class we discussed and defined each of the seven deadly sins since we our reading Dante's Inferno, which deals with Hell.
